Yes, Nicole, Plato’s closet is another great place. I keep switching between writing for a local audience (our fellowship) and a national one so I forget to include all the local tips and tricks. So thanks for bringing that one up.

One wash can ruin a bra so it’s automatically worth the $4. Why are you so interested, Keith?

Also–Plato’s closet is a great store to find name brand clothes at thrift store prices. They only sell good condition name brand stuff, such as: Gap, Express, Lucky, Seven, Nine West, the Limited, Old Navy, Structure, Banana Republic, DKNY, just to name a few. I have gotten pretty much every pair of dress pants and jeans I own there! There is one located in the plaza with the Burlington Coat Factory on Howe Rd (across the street from Target, Panera and Best Buy plazas).

I second that on the shoes. I don’t shop at Payless because their shoes make my feet want to cry. Mostly I get shoes on clearance or sales at Kohls. It’s important to buy good athletic shoes so you don’t mess your feet up while exercising. I buy the cheapest Nikes, on sale with a coupon, because they feel good and last a long time.

I agree – buy solid colors, avoid here today gone tomorrow trends.

The thrift store is a bust for dudes too in my opinion – everyone knows about this “secret”. Back in the the day, I used to be able to score vintage t-shirts and lacoste polos almost everytime I went. Now because “vintage” made a comeback, the chances of finding something like that are almost 0%.

Ask your family for gift cards to places that you’d like to shop. Then, wait for sales. I hoard gift cards for years (make sure they hold the balance) and I never buy clothes that aren’t on sale. I don’t even look at the regularly priced clothes.

Most clothes eventually go on sale and if they don’t, it means a whole lot of people bought the shirt you wanted anyway, so I always looked at it like it was a good thing that I didn’t get the same shirt as everyone else.

I just recently used about a hundred dollars off of my dillard’s gift card and got 2 pairs of pants, 4 dress shirts, and some underwear from dillard’s! The shirts were 70% off plus an additional 50% off! That’s crazy!

If you’re going to spend money, I recommend getting good shoes. They make your feet feel good.
